Gurnard Sailing Club April 08, 2011
Gurnard Sailing Club, located on the shores of Gurnard, a mile or so west of Cowes, Isle of Wight, benefits from strong tides and challenging conditions, which makes for first class sailing.
Objectives of works
- To provide web cams for the sailing club to improve the facilities of the club, allowing people to watch sailing via the club’s website
- To provide a weather station for the sailing club linked through to the club’s website in order to provide detailed 24/7 real time weather information for club users.
- Assistance and support with email newsletter campaigns
Solutions
In 2009, Navigate IT & Telecoms provided and installed 2 web cams into the club house, and linked these through to the club’s website. The installation included a menu for users to be able to easily switch between the start line cam and the east bay cam.
In 2011, Navigate IT & Telecoms provided and installed a weather station at the club, which provides real time weather information, including information on wind speed and direction, as well as gust information, in Gurnard Bay to club users. The weather station is linked through to the club’s website so that users can easily check the weather in Gurnard from any location.
Navigate IT & Telecoms manages the club’s email newsletter campaigns, sending out newsletters on the clubs behalf.
Outcome
As a result of the measures implemented by Navigate IT and Telecoms, Gurnard Sailing Club is now able to provide state-of-the-art IT facilities for its members. Sailing club members can watch the racing at the club from anywhere in the world, as well as local members being able to check on real time weather conditions from wherever they are with an internet connection.
