Into the blue June 22, 2010
Into the blue is a Cowes based PR and marketing company working with prestigious accounts in the sailing arena and beyond. In 2009 Navigate solutions was asked by Into the blue to structure, install and support the IT and telecoms provision in the media centre for the JP Morgan Asset Management Round the Island race.
With over 1700 race entries the Round the Island race is one of the most popular fixtures on the Solent racing calendar. Competitors come from Europe and the USA, as well as all over the UK, to follow the 50 mile course round the Isle of Wight. Journalist travel from all over the UK and the world to report on the event and require constant internet and telephone access through the weekend.
Objectives
- To provide reliable, always on connection to the internet in the media centre throughout the event and reduce the overall cost of provision
- To provide telephone access to the journalist and reduce the overall telecoms cost to the event
- Structure the cables and services within the media centre to maintain the quality and standards associated with the event

Solution
- Standardisation of the existing cabling to improve the overall look of the facility
- Load balancing of multiple internet connections to provide “always on” resilient access
- Set up of telephone PBX to reduce the amount of required lines into the building
- Installation of wireless network to cover media centre
- Available engineering resource throughout the event in case of failures/problems
Outcome
As a result of the measures implemented by Navigate Solutions, the event were able to provide the visiting journalist with a comfortable, well connected and functional space in which to file reports both over the internet, via telephone or directly to radio. The media centre achieved 100% uptime on both internet connections and telephone access meaning information could be relayed whenever and however required.
