CASE STUDY Strainstall UK LTD Strainstall is a Cowes-based firm which has been a customer of Navigate Solutions since 2007. Strainstall's clients are based in various locations throughout the world. They also have roaming engineers and agents who operate in various locations around the globe. As such the firm relies heavily on email, the Internet and Remote Access. In addition, the company has approximately 50 users located on site in Cowes, many of whom have large storage requirements and the backup requirements that accompany this.

 

Objectives

  • To overhaul the firm's existing IT systems, bringing their ageing hardware, software and infrastructure up to date
  • Installation of Brand New Server providing future-proof storage scalability reliable backup, as well as the usual network services.
  • To provide Strainstall with a reliable network, with the ability to access data via secure VPN. In addition, the provision of secure email access for mobile users via Webmail and Mobile Phones.
  • Remote access to on-site phone system for remote users.
  • To make the transition from the old server to the new server as smooth as possible making sure the impact on staff working is minimal.

  • Installation of New HP Server running Windows Small Business Server 2003 utilizing expandable RAID 5 technology and an Ultrium Tape Backup Solution
  • Upgrade of workstations from Windows 2000 and 98 to Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Purchase of Microsoft Licensing
  • Overhaul of network configuration, security and access.
  • Set up of secure VPNs and webmail access
  • Implementation of mobile data access via mobile phone/PDA
  • Installation of Dedicated Server running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Sharepoint-based Document Management System
  • Installation of LG IPEC 300 IP Phone System
  • Provision of Navigate Solutions Platinum Support Contract

Outcome

As a result of the measures implemented by Navigate Solutions, Strainstall now enjoys a secure IT network with minimal downtime, which can be accessed from anywhere worldwide, safe in the knowledge that all data is encrypted, and that in the unlikely event of a system failure, all of its crucial data will be properly backed up.
